FATTY LIVER
Liver disorders, Fatty liver is the word that describes the buildup of fat in the liver, which in medical term is hepatic steatosis. It is a reversible condition with lifestyle modifications. There are two types of fatty liver. NASH – Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis and Alcoholic fatty liver. The causes of fatty liver include alcoholism, hyperlipidemia or high levels of fat in the blood, diabetes, genetic inheritance, rapid weight loss, side effects of certain medicines etc. Symptoms include fatigue, weight loss, weakness, ache in the upper right belly etc. The diagnosis is mainly by blood tests, abdominal ultrasound, CT scan and MRI scan.
JAUNDICE
Jaundice is referred to as the yellowish tinge of the skin and whites of the eyes. The color change will vary depending on levels of bilirubin. Bilirubin is a waste material found in the blood after iron is removed. If there is too much bilirubin, it can leak to the surrounding tissue known as hyperbilirubinemia. . Moderate levels cause yellow color and very high levels leads to brown color. The risk factors include acute inflammation of the liver, inflammation of the bile duct, hemolytic anemia, Gilbert’s syndrome, cholesterol and rare conditions like Crigler – Najjar Syndrome, Dubin-Johnson syndrome and Pseudo jaundice.
CIRRHOSIS
Cirrhosis is the last stage of scarring of the liver caused by different liver diseases and conditions such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism. Liver detoxify harmful substances in the body, cleaning blood and making vital nutrients. Liver tries to repair itself each time it is injured. In this process scar tissues are formed. When Cirrhosis progresses more scar tissues are formed making it difficult for the liver to function. Cirrhosis usually has no symptoms until the liver damage is pervasive, but some symptoms like fatigue, swelling in your legs, weight loss, fluid accumulation in abdomen, slurred speech are found.
